Résumé / Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine the tools available for a road safety diagnosis (or the evaluation of the road safety situation at a given point of time), aimed at supporting preventive action either at the national or at the local level, and to show how these methodological tools can comfort each other, both from a theoretical and a practical viewpoint. Although the use of alternate or complemental approaches to those traditionally based on accidents is the main focus, accident analysis has to be considered as a reference and an integral part of any safety diagnosis with an operational outcome.
