Résumé / Abstract
Several coastal countries have sought to develop new hub ports, hoping to capture the value added of the development of containerization in which the rate of growth until recently has remained in double digits. In addition, hub ports have seen their traffic grow more strongly than other ports that are dedicated to their hinterlands. Yet value added is lower in those ports where only transhipments are performed compared with ports where specific services are delivered. Hence a few hub ports are trying to jointly develop these two functions. This is the case of the port of Tangiers. We will use this empirical example to try to identify the activities performed in this port that are related to each of these functions. Hub functions are known to be simple and basic, while logistics activities can be complex. Can they be complementary ? We demonstrate that the hub port has achieved a certain degree of success despite the crisis, but that so far it has not played a role in re-shaping the supply chains of Morocco.
