Résumé / Abstract
Carbon monoxide, unburnt hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide emitted by LPG engined vehicles were compared to the same emissions of gasoline engined vehicles. The results of 4 European studies carried out on 19 conventional vehicles and 5 vehicles equipped with catalysts were analysed. They demonstrate the advantage of LPG for carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon and carbon dioxide emissions. Simultaneously, 5 conventional vehicles were tested using 2 standardized driving cycles and 4 cycles representative of private vehicle actual use with gasoline carburation and then LPG carburation systems. The results which relatively vary from one vehicle to another one, globally confirm the results obtained from the bibliography synthesis but show that NOx emissions with LPG are significantly higher than with gasoline. These results are then compared to unit emissions of the French gasoline and diesel engined fleets: LPG does not allow reaching the low gazeous emissions of gas-oil.
