Résumé / Abstract
« Establishing innovative and sustainable transit system in University of Indonesia campus and the city of Depok » is the title of a French Indonesian cooperation project, jointly funded by the French Ministry for foreign affairs and the Indonesian Ministry for research and technology within the Nusantara program. The program finances travel of French and Indonesian partners between France and Indonesia, but not the research itself. The research is supported by the cooperating institutions: the French Institute for Transportation and Safety Research (INRETS), and Universitas Indonesia (UI), and carried out by their professors, researchers and doctoral students. Additional funding by the Indonesian Ministry for transport supports an Indonesian doctoral student stipend for internship at INRETS. Other financing sources help researches that are used in this project. In 2009, a first mission to Indonesia by the French team Francis Kuhn, Francis Papon and Jeong-hwa An was conducted from 15 to 29 July to set the scope of the cooperation and discuss additional arrangements. A return mission to France by the Indonesian team Suyono Dikun and Irwan Katili 7 to 14 December made it possible to assess work progress. The first year report was released soon afterwards. In 2010, separate missions to Indonesia by Francis Kuhn (22-27 May) and Francis Papon (17-24 July) helped at completing missing data and improving mutual understanding. The last missions by the Indonesian team Irwan Katili and co 3-9 October (outside Nusantara subsidy) and 27 November- 3 December eased the completion of the work. A final French mission by Jeong-hwa An 10-30 December allowed the presentation of the work done to the Indonesian side. The purpose of the work is to investigate the urban mobility in the city of Depok and University of Indonesia campus and to analyze an innovative and efficient transport system to meet demand in relation with other modes, including also a tramway line in the campus area. While the huge megacity of Jakarta (called Jabodetabek) is clogged by congestion and lacks sufficient and efficient mass transit services, the present project is not about meeting transport needs for the whole conurbation, but only in the suburban city of Depok, which hosts the campus of Universitas Indonesia, with special emphasis on sustainable modes, in particular tramway. An experimental tramway line will be built within the UI campus. Work is divided into three work packages: -1. Analysis of present and future mobility in the university of Indonesia and in Depok. -2. Analysis of existing sustainable urban transport systems. The focus will be made essentially on tramway systems. All the tramway systems developed in several cities in France are compared in the point of view of sustainable development and mobility efficiency. -3. Analysis of the global system considering intermodality at two levels: intermodality between public transport systems (mainly heavy rail and light rail), intermodality between public transport and bicycles or walking. Details relating to the first two workpackages are included in the final Nusantara report. Details relating to the third workpackage are available in the final report of the parallel project (with separate funding) PORT-VERT that will be made available shortly on the predit website. In addition, the doctoral thesis by Jack Suprapto is ongoing and will yield more comprehensive results.
