Résumé / Abstract
Driving simulation can prove very convenient when studying hazardous situations such as fog. But present simulators only propose daytime fog without any light source. In this paper, we analyze the mechanisms which cause fog to impair visibility, and we characterize the visual effects of fog by means of a frequential contrast operator. Then we propose a physical model of these effects which describes the attenuation of contrast for both surfaces and light sources in both daytime and night-time conditions. Finally, we describe how this model was implemented using Open GL, and show some images obtained with the resulting 3D engine.
