Résumé / Abstract
An increase number of drivers are able to engage activities on their smart phone nowadays. On one hand, road safety issues of driver's distraction and smartphone use are crucial. On the other hand, easy access to real time road critical information could contribute to drivers' safety and comfort. After presenting driving performance decrement in relation to phone use, this paper gathers data from a survey investigating drivers' motivations in using a mobile application informing the driver about road danger or unexpected events. Covered issues are dealing with reliability of the transmitted information via the collaborative service and level of drivers' trust and participation. Results showed that participation level is motivated by willingness to make the collaborative system working in addition to solidarity with the community. Senior drivers are also motivated to use the service. This study allows a better understanding of motivation of smartphone use by the drivers 'community; further research investigations are required to find out how to answer to these needs without interfering with road safety requirements.
