Résumé / Abstract
The visibility of a LED road stud is assessed under various illumination conditions and a dry and wet road surface. A quantitative model is introduced and shows that the recommended intensity levels to ensure enough visibility of the stud at an observation angle of 1° depend on the horizontal illuminance on the road, the elevation and the azimuth of the sun with respect to the road user observation axis, and on the road surface condition. Findings confirms that a smart dimming of the stud's intensity according to the external conditions allow to ensure visual performances for road users while limiting the energy consumption.
