Résumé / Abstract
In considering the driver errors, many studies used the driver behaviour questionnaire (dbq) but relatively few were interested in aging effects on the implementation of behavioural adaptations. The aim of the present study was to investigate the factorial structure of the driver behaviour questionnaire (dbq)[reason et al., 1990. Ergonomics 33, 1315-1312) in France and for a particular population, elderly drivers. The present study used a mail survey addressed to French retired drivers (n = 1500) to study the relationship between dbq factors and driving exposure, accidents, health and self-assessment of driving. The principal component analysis identified 3 factors: inattention errors, dangerous errors and dangerous violations. Multiple linear regressions showed that driving self-assessment is a good predictor of inattention and dangerous errors. Age was only related to dangerous violation (negative correlation). The results support the interest of the dbq to describe characteristic features of elderly driver's errors in order to develop relevant remediation actions and to clarify how driving behaviour can be taken into account during a driving competency evaluation.
