Résumé / Abstract
After the second world war, the increase in road vehicles for persons and good transport consequently resulted in more traffic accidents; in the same period, the maximum speed and engine power of cars increased also, which led to more severe accidents. In developed countries, at the beginning of the 70's, and compared to present figures, there were at least twice more people killed on the roads, the traffic being less than half of today's. A large part of this improvement is due to changes in car design aimed at providing a better protection.
