Résumé / Abstract
The analysis is based on cohort data constructed from repeated cross-section surveys in France and the auk. Two different modelling strategies are employed: a demographic approach and an economic adjustment approach. This allows discrepancies resulting from model strategy to be distinguished from actual differences between countries or zones with contrasted population density. The demographic approach is primarily oriented towards long-term forecasting. It takes into account changes in car ownership over the life cycle for each generation, differences between generations and period effects explained by incomes and prices.
