Résumé / Abstract
THE INTRODUCTION OF LOW FLOOR BUSES, WHICH ARE AT THE SAME LEVEL AS THE BUS STOP PLATFORM, ONTO URBAN TRANSPORT NETWORKS HAS GONE TO SOLVING SEVERAL PROBLEMS OF USER ACCESS. FOR GOOD ACCESSIBILITY, IN PARTICULAR FOR PERSONS OF REDUCED MOBILITY, THE BUS MUST GET AS NEAR AS POSSIBLE TO THE EDGE OF THE PLATFORM. IN ORDER TO REPEAT THIS MANOEUVRE ACCURATELY IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO MAKE USE OF AUTOMATIC GUIDANCE TECHNIQUES DURING THE DOCKING PHASE FROM FORTY METRES UPSTREAM OF THE STOP BUS STATION. THIS PAPER PRESENTS A BUS THEORETICAL MODEL WHICH HAS BEEN FURTHER REFINED ON THE BASIS BEHAVIOUR OF OBSERVATIONS OF A BUS WHEN SUBJECTED TO A VARIETY OF CONTROL REGIMES. FOR EXPERIMENTAL TRIALS THE VEHICLE WAS FITTED WITH A SET OF SENSORS LINKED TO THE STEERING AND A SYSTEM WHICH MONITORED AND RECORDED THE LATERAL POSITION OF THE BUS WITH RESPECT TO A 'PLATFORM' REFERENCE POINT.
