Résumé / Abstract
The paper presents the results of a sample survey carried out in a French 'department' on motoring offences detected by national police forces (police and 'gendarmerie') and dealing with: variety, the range and the frequency of road offences being detected; the space-time structure of police control enforcement and the socio-demographic structure of driver population being caught out in violation of driving rules. Both control and offending-driving structures enlighten a global dependence of the space-time control strategies on self-organisation or general administrative monitoring of each police agency and a global coherence of the sociodemography of offending-driving population with what we know about the main features of violation of driving rules (behavior and risk studies).
