About logarithm in Acoustics. Environment and road traffic acoustics commonly use equivalent noise levels Leq. Equation (1) induces special Processes with Independent and Stationary (and positive) Increments, PIS(p)I, and shows how conventional logarithm may be considered as a transform of random variables f, eq.(2). Here we investigate the 'best' or most convenient transforms in order to provide a satisfactory statistical estimation of an overall noise exposure on a long time T, for a 'stable' noise. With statistical arguments (and symbolic calculations) we conclude the logarithm is the alone convenient transform, eq.(5), (6). Companion advantages of logarithm tranform are given.
