Estimation, prediction and diffusion of travel times on an inter-urban motorway network

Résumé / Abstract
This paper describes the key results derived from a research aiming to test the feasibility of the diffusion, in real time of travel times on motorway itineraries during summer holiday trips. The network concerned managed by ASF company (motorways of south France) is composed of the a7 and a9 motorways particularly loaded during summer holidays. After the description of the data collection system, the paper presents an algorithm of calculation of the travel time from measurements provided on line by sensors on the itinerary. The method is validated by a comparison with values extracted from a floating-car survey. A prediction model of the travel time is then developed and its characteristics of precision presented. The conclusion underlines the conditions of diffusion of these informations on inter-urban motorway networks.
