Résumé / Abstract
The paper presents a new approach to the design of integrated motorway control including motorway-to-motorway control and ramp metering. The developed control strategy is based on non linear optimisation technique for a large scale traffic network. A multilayer control structure (adaptation, optimisation and direct control layers) has been developed and tested in simulation and a generic tool namely oasis (optimal advanced system for integrated strategies) has been implemented. For use in the corresponding development and evaluation studies, the macroscopic model namely Metacor has been calibrated and validated on the basis of real traffic data selected under a broad spectrum of traffic conditions. The off-line simulation results reported in this paper have been conducted in the southern part of Ile de France motorway network in Paris. The obtained results prove that the integrated control approach has a significant potential for the improvement of traffic network performance.
