Résumé / Abstract
Implementing road traffic demand management measures in France means facing adverse winds. The potential ridership of public transport is decreasing and travel demand is more and more scattered in the fringes of urban areas. Distances to reach destinations are increasing, leaving no chance for walking and cycling. Proposals for efficient traffic restriction measures a rise strong opposition. Incentives actions that may be achieved have little effect on traffic demand. But, the natural adaptability of human beings to adverse conditions shows that something can be done, and that comprehensive transport schemes should be planned to improve the situation.
